Dr. Katie Burke was named Florida Atlantic’s new Assistant Vice President of Alumni and Community Engagement, effective July 11, 2022. In her new role, she will engage alumni and friends in the life of FAU. With more than 186,000 alumni, Florida Atlantic offers programs and resources to keep Owls connected long after graduation.
Since 2019, Katie has served as Executive Director in FAU’s New Student Transitions and Family Engagement areas. Prior to that, she held the position of Assistant Dean for the Weppner Center for Leadership Education & Development (LEAD) and Service-Learning. During her 15-year tenure at FAU, Katie has held numerous leadership roles in New Student Orientation and Onboarding, Transfer Student Services, Family Engagement, Student Organizations, Civic Engagement and Service, and the FAU Mentoring Project.
Katie is a strategic, visionary and innovative individual who thrives on building positive and long-lasting relationships, which will make her an outstanding leader to build FAU’s community and alumni programs. Her background in student affairs offers critical insight into our diverse and dynamic student body, and her trailblazing leadership skills will foster a culture of engagement and pride among students, alumni, members of the alumni association, board members, and community leaders and partners.
A lifelong Owl, Katie came to Florida Atlantic as a first-generation student and received her undergraduate degree in criminal justice. She went on to complete two master’s degrees, as well as a Ph.D. in educational leadership and research methodology. Within FAU, Katie is a highly engaged staff mentor and also serves as an associate graduate faculty who teaches higher education leadership courses as well as University Honors Program courses.
Established in 1968, the Florida Atlantic University Alumni Association represents FAU’s ever-growing alumni community. The FAUAA’s mission is to represent and promote alumni and University interests by facilitating ongoing relationships between FAU and its alumni and by fostering loyalty and support for FAU. Building school identity, spirit and loyalty through programs and services, the FAUAA and its membership are dedicated to advancing the goals and missions of the University.
