About Marleen and Harold Forkas

The legacy of Marleen and Harold Forkas typifies the spirit behind the American Dream. Married for almost 25 years, Marleen and Harold shared a strong philanthropic sense and a commitment to many charitable organizations. Harold’s passing in 2009 was felt throughout the community. A true entrepreneur, Harold arrived in New York City in 1935, eager to become a part of the business world. After working in the office supply business, he embarked on a management and sales career with the Coca-Cola Bottling Company. Success in this industry did not deter him from pursuing other professional challenges. When an opportunity to become a Midas Muffler franchisee arose, Harold followed his instincts and by the time he retired in 1988, he owned eight Midas Muffler dealerships. Marleen Forkas is well recognized for her 40-year career as a fashion designer and embroidery manufacturer. She was the first woman to graduate from the Fashion Institute of Technology’s Management Engineering Division.

Marleen and Harold began their association with their ‚hometown‚Äù university in 1997 when they became involved with programs at FAU’s University Center. True sports enthusiasts, the couple joined the University’s Inner Circle of Football Founders and were part of the excitement as FAU fielded its inaugural team in 2001. Regular attendees at FAU home and away games, they discovered what they referred to as a whole new family of friends. Although Harold is deeply missed, Marleen continues to grace the alumni center with her support and presence. Through their interest in FAU alumni activities, Marleen and Harold have brought to the alumni center and FAU’s past, present and future graduates a feeling of Enthusiasm, Sincerity and Pride.
